" I wanted to tell you about Project readOn, and I wanted to mention that our site is now live and fully
operational. www.projectreadon.com. I'd love for you to check it out! To use the service just click on an
icon, the video will launch, and the caption player will launch in a separate window. Both should start at
the same time, but if you have to wait for the video to buffer, or an advertisement to play first, just hit
'pause' and 'rewind' then 'play' on both players and the captions should sync perfectly. If you have
questions about this process, just let me know. "
"This project is an outgrowth of Rhino Moon's captioning business (www.rhinomoon.com), and has really
taken on a life of its own. Our site is devoted to creating captions for any online media content. Anyone
can 'request' a video or podcast to be captioned. We take those requests and evaluate them for posting on
the site. As long as it isn't inappropriate, absurdly lengthy, or highly specialized, we will caption it and
post it on the site for everyone to enjoy. This doesn't cost any money, but we are accepting donations
from the community at this time. "
"Three tangible things you could do today that would be AWESOME for us are:
Go to the site and simply create a user account, this helps us show that there is real interest in the site
The site is built around user requested content, so when you see a worthwhile video online that we
could/should caption, simply visit our site and 'request' is so we can put it in our queue to caption and
post on the site
Please spread the word about Project readOn! Tell all your friends, and ask them to do these three things,
it will really help us out a lot!
We 'launched' the site about a month ago, and in that time we have had an amazing response! We've had
some great write ups in various deaf blogs, have made some great relationships with some of those
writers who have become big advocates of our service, have built a great relationship with the National
Association for the Deaf, and more. We are also focused on implementing our 'Project readOn Widget' that
can go on a host site so that people can requests videos directly from the source. Earlier this week we
passed our 100th media file captioned and posted to the site, and we have at least one high-profile media
site lined up to launch our service in two weeks, we hope to have an official announcement about that very
